At Airedale Infant School our ambition is to enrich the lives of our children by carefully planning a range of trips, visitors and a range of real life experiences to enrich our curriculum.

Spring Term 1

On Wednesday 19th January, LeAnimals Mobile Zoo came into school for the Year 1 children who were learning all about "All Creatures Great and Small". The children learnt many interesting facts about herbivores, omnivores and carnivores and applied their excellent animal knowledge to categorise the animals based on their key features. The children loved meeting a Rabbit, Corn Snake, Scorpion, Mouse, hairless Guinea pig, Bearded Dragon and Gecko. All children then created a wonderful recount from their exciting morning.

On Friday 28th January, Nursery held a Pirate theme day for all children to dress up and engage in a wide range of activites linking to their current topic "Just Imagine".

    

         

         

 

On Wednesday 2nd February, our children from year 2 have had the amazing opportunity to take part in the read to succeed scheme alongside Castleford Tigers. They all got their own copy of the story to share and enjoy at home and will begin to write their own 'Tiger who came to tea' story in the coming weeks.

 

On Friday 4th February, Reception children enjoyed taking part in their Pirate theme day to enhance their "Just Imagine" topic. They had so much fun dressing up as Pirates and taking part in a range of activities in provision.

      

      

 

On Friday 4th February, we celebrated Numbers day in school and raised £79 for the NSPCC charity!

All children took part in a range of fun Maths activities and dressed up in digits.

      

 

On Tuesday 8th February, we celebrated Safer Internet Day! All children took part in a range of activities linking to online safety and we held a competition to design E-Safety posters for around our school!

 

On Tuesday 8th and Friday 11th February, Nursery and Reception children attended our local library to take part in a range of exciting story related activites. The children had so much fun listening to new stories, engaging in craft activities and exploring Airedale Library's sensory room.

      

      

 

On Friday 11th February, our Year 2 children visited Docaster Wildlife Park to learn all about a range of animals as part of their 'Into the Wild' topic this half term. The children all had so much fun learning about the animals and have written some wonderful diary entries to recall the events of their day.

      

      

 

Spring Term 2

On Tuesday 1st March Nursery children made and tasted pancakes to celerbate Pancake Day. The children all had so much fun baking and tasting them!

      

On Tuesday 1st March all children in Year 1 and 2 dressed up as their favourite book characters to celebrate World Book Day. The children listened to their class teacher's favourite stories and shared their favourite stories with their friends.

      

   

All Key stage 1 parents also attended a parent workshop to celebrate our love of reading in school. Parents enjoyed being back in school and engaged in a range of activities themed around our favoruite story books. 

      

Parents commented "We loved spending the morning with our child. It was great for her to show us her favourite stories and make crafts together." "What a wonderful morning spent with my child!"

   

 

On Wednesday 2nd March, Year 1 had a visitor from the Wakefield Toy Museum. The children learnt all about toys from 100, 75 and 50 years ago and how toys have changed in the materials they are made from. The children met Charlie Bear who was an old Teddy Bear with joints and learnt how teddies have changed. We also had fun making 3D rocking horse models and spent time exploring a range of old toys.

       

      

On Friday 18th March we held a Comic Relief day in school to raise money for charity. The children enjoyed taking part and raising lots of money for a good cause!

On 6th April we held our annual Easter Egg competition for all children across school. Children designed and made some 'eggcellent' entries and had so much fun looking at their friends entries.

        

Reception Pixies and Sprites visited Ledston Woods as part of their topic learning all about 'Rumble in the Jungle'. They all had a wonderful time exploring nature and looking for mini-beasts!

       

On Monday 16th May all Key Stage 1 children visited Airedale Library for an 'Amazing Author' visit! Children listened to stories written by Suzie Senior and enjoyed taking part in a range of activities. We wrote book reviews upon our return and enjoyed sharing the books bought with our families.

This week in Nursery the children enjoyed a picnic joined by their family members. They sat outside in the sun and enjoyed lots of delicious snacks. The children and their families had lots of fun!!

       

On Monday 23rd May all Year 1 children walked to our local church, Holy Cross and met with Rev. Tracy. The children loved meeting Rev. Tracy and exploring the parts of a Christian Church. Children came back to school and made images of our church and the features we found inside!

On Tuesday 24th May all Year 1 children took part in an Afternoon Tea DT theme day as part of our 'We Are British' topic! The children were sent a letter from Buckingham Palace asking for their help to design an Afternoon Tea Menu for the Queen's Jubilee! We had so much fun designing, making and evaluating our fruit skewers, sandwiches and cupcakes.

      

On Wednesday 25th May, all children loved taking part in our Platinum Jubilee Celebrations for Queen Elizabeth II's upcoming celebrations! Children had a Jubilee themed lunch and enjoyed a range of royal activities across school!

     

School have been collecting items for the Dogs Trust over the last two weeks in memory of a child's family pet. Children and their families donated a range of items of food, toys and accessories and Kenny and his family were overjoyed with the generosity of our Airedale Infant families.
