At Airedale Infant School our ambition is to enrich the lives of our children by carefully planning a range of trips, visitors and a range of real life experiences to enrich our curriculum. 

Take a look at our amazing learning so far this year!

Autumn term 1- 2022-23

On Friday 30th September, our school council arranged a Macmillan Coffee Afternoon to raise money for the charity. Airedale Junior and Infant School Councillors would like to say a huge thank you to all parents and carers who donated buns. We raised an amazing total of £530.24, which will go towards helping those in need. 

On Wednesday 5th October Y1 children went to visit Eureka to support their learning all about the human body and their five senses. The children took part in a senses show and explored the 'All about me' gallery to learn lots of new human body facts. The children had a wonderful time and have since written amazing recounts from their trip.

        

       

On Friday 7th October, children came to school wearing yellow to celebrate our annual 'Hello Yellow' day for World Mental Health Day. At Airedale Infant School, the mental health and wellbeing of our pupils, parents, carers and staff is of upmost importance to us and children took place in many activities throughout the day linking to mental health.

        

      

On Monday 3rd October and Friday 7th October, children in Nursery and Receptin were joined by their parents/carers for a reading activity event. This was an opportunity for adults to work one to one with their child, see their developing skills and have fun together!

         

      

      

   

      

   

      

On Friday 14th October, children in Nursery enjoyed dressing up as their favourite traditional tale character when completing activities around some of our focus stories from this half-term. Children can repeat phrases, name the characters and talk about different parts of the story of Jack and the Beanstalk, The Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Little Red Riding Hood, The Gingerbread Man and The Three Billy Goats Gruff. 

     

    

      

On 12th and 13th October 2022, Year 2 children visited our local Renewi recycling centre as part of their 'Litter Bug' topic. Children took part in several workshops which helped them to understand the process of the 3 R's, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. The children discussed how they could reduce the amount of waste in their packed lunches and how as a collective we could help to reduce the level of polluted plastics which harm wildlife. The children also made a super elephant using recycled milk bottles.

            

         

On Tuesday 18th October, all Year 1 children came to school dressed in the theme of 'People Who Help Us' to celebrate our theme day. Children took part in a number of emergency services activies throughout the day and created leaflets all about who to call in an emergency. In the afternoon, children and parents went to our school hall to take part in a range of practical activities. We all had so much fun learning about our amazing emergency services. A special thank you to all parents and carers who attended this event.

     

                                    

Autumn Term 2

Take a look at our amazing enrichments throughout our Autumn 2 half term...

On Monday 8th November, Year 1 children took part in a Geography theme day were the children created 2D and 3D maps for our local area. Children gave directions to each other and loved to discuss the places of interest on our community that they visit with their families.

        

  

On Wednesday 9th November, Year 2 invited their parents and carers into school as part of their Design and Technology learning. Children and their adults all took part in building models of burning homes from the Great Fire of London. What a wonderful afternoon!

         

        

Reverend Tracey visited EYFS on Thursday 17th November to share information about baptisms. The children listened to Reverend Tracey and participated in our own Christening and celebration. 

  

On Friday 18th November, the school took part in Children in Need and this year the theme was spots. The Children came to school dressed in non-uniform and they all had lots of fun learning about Pudsey the Bear. Airedale Infant School would like to say a huge thank you for all of the generous donations, we were delighted to announce that we have raised a total of £126.27, which will go towards helping those in need.

 

        

 

On Friday 2nd December, Year 1 invited their parents and carers into school as part of their geography learning of their local area. Parents supported children to create a park using a range of crafty materials. It was an amazing afternoon!

          

 

Spring Term 1- 2022-23

On Tuesday 31st January Nursery and Reception children visited a Wonderdome to support our learning of space. Inside we saw; planets, stars, space shuttles and different galaxy's.  What a wonderful time we had!

            

On Wednesday 1st February 2023, all Year 1 children visited The Deep as part of their 'All Creatures Great and Small' curriculum learning. Children loved exploring the many galleries and aquariums to see a range of animals. Our children were able to apply their excellent Scientific knowledge of animals from our Science lessons and loved taking part in a workshop with Marine Biologists to learn more about fish. We were even lucky enough to watch Suba divers feeding Turtles and Stingrays!

The children were so very well behaved and we all had a wonderful time.

 

      

 

On Wednesday 8th February the children came into school dressed in clothing that best expressed themselves as part of our dress to express day in support of Children's mental health. They all looked amazing and enjoyed taking part in activities learning about the importance of mental health. #Childrensmentalhealthweek

           

        

         

 

Spring Term 2- 2022-23

On Wednesday 22nd February Nursery and Reception had a visit from P.C Libby and P.C Richard. The children really enjoyed learning about the police and what they do, we even got to try on some police hats and helmets. The Children were all so well behaved for our special visitors.

 

      

   

On Thursday 2nd March the children all came to school dressed up as their favourite character for World Book Day. The Children took part in lots of fun activities on world book day and throughout the week. The children also had a wonderful day meeting Suzie Senior the Author and listening to her wonderful stories!

           

 

On Thursday 2nd March we had the pleasure of Suzy Senior leading a number of Author workshops in our school for a World Book Day! Here is a photo of the children who were awarded with an Aspiring Author Award for creating excellent stories at home (KS1) or writing super book reviews (EYFS).

 

 

On Friday 10th March EYFS had a visit from a Nurse called Adelle. Adelle told the children about her role in the community and the different types of tools she would use as a nurse. The children really enjoyed listening to Adelle and enjoyed pretending to be nurses and patients. It looks like we have some future doctors and nurses!

     

 

On Monday 13th March, year 2 had two lovely nurse visitors who came to speak to us about their job roles and what they do in the hospital to help patients get better. As our topic this half term is 'Helping and Healing' we discussed how much nursing has changed over the years making references to our learning in history of Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole. We also made links with our English as our focus for this week is to write instructions. We listened carefully to the nurses whilst they explained how to wash our hands correctly. We asked them lots of questions and used a special light which showed how many germs were actually on our hands. We now cannot wait to write our very own handwashing instructions and are very thankful to our visitors for giving us lots of useful tips!

   

On Friday 31st March, Children brought in there eggcellent Easter Egg projects which they had made. All year groups took part in our Easter Egg competition and they all worked so hard and created some excellent projects, they all looked amazing. Choosing the winners was very difficult!

     

Summer Term 1 - 2022-23

On Friday 28th April our Year 1 children visited Ledston Estate and they all had a wonderful time, The children spotted a range of different types of trees and collected a wide range of woodland objects. They cannot wait to apply all of their super scientific knowledge in class next week. Thanks for a great day @LedstonEstate! #NaatTrips

     

On Tuesday 9th May, Reception Sprites and Pixies visited Airedale Library. They had a fantastic day sharing stories, choosing a library book and exploring all the different activities in the digital hub. A special thanks to our parent helpers, who also seemed to enjoy the fun!

     

 

Let's reflect back on our amazing events in 2021-22...

 

Spring Term 2- 2021-22

On Tuesday 1st March Nursery children made and tasted pancakes to celerbate Pancake Day. The children all had so much fun baking and tasting them!

      

On Tuesday 1st March all children in Year 1 and 2 dressed up as their favourite book characters to celebrate World Book Day. The children listened to their class teacher's favourite stories and shared their favourite stories with their friends.

      

   

All Key stage 1 parents also attended a parent workshop to celebrate our love of reading in school. Parents enjoyed being back in school and engaged in a range of activities themed around our favoruite story books. 

      

Parents commented "We loved spending the morning with our child. It was great for her to show us her favourite stories and make crafts together." "What a wonderful morning spent with my child!"

   

 

On Wednesday 2nd March, Year 1 had a visitor from the Wakefield Toy Museum. The children learnt all about toys from 100, 75 and 50 years ago and how toys have changed in the materials they are made from. The children met Charlie Bear who was an old Teddy Bear with joints and learnt how teddies have changed. We also had fun making 3D rocking horse models and spent time exploring a range of old toys.

       

      

On Friday 18th March we held a Comic Relief day in school to raise money for charity. The children enjoyed taking part and raising lots of money for a good cause!

On 6th April we held our annual Easter Egg competition for all children across school. Children designed and made some 'eggcellent' entries and had so much fun looking at their friends entries.

        

Reception Pixies and Sprites visited Ledston Woods as part of their topic learning all about 'Rumble in the Jungle'. They all had a wonderful time exploring nature and looking for mini-beasts!
