What Do Our School Councillors Do?

  • Our Student Council meet on a regular basis.
  • We help organise school events, and have helped to raise money for charities and for school funds, such as organising a hot dog sale and dress down day. We sponsored a Giant Panda with WWF, and raised £60 for our nominated charity, Make A Wish Foundation.
  • We nominate charities that we will raise money for.
  • We have a say about things that happen in our school.

School events 2021-2022

Harvest Festival 2021

This year we celebrated Harvest Festival together in school and collected food donations from parents and carers to donate to our local Food Bank. Our school councillors helped collect all the food then we took it to the local food bank to help families in the community.

Hellow Yellow- Mental Health Day 2021

The school council organised a Hellow Yellow event where children attended school in yellow and we collected donations for the Young Minds charity.

Some Of Our Previous Events

Harvest Festival

We helped to organise the Harvest Festival that took place at Holy Cross Church. We asked families of the school to donate non-perishable foods to be passed onto Castleford Food Bank. The Student Council commented"we felt really proud that lots of food was donated for Harvest Festival.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

We helped to organise our Macmillan Cofee Morning, by asking for donations of cakes and buns to make our event a success. On the morning, we helped to sell buns, cakes and juice to the parents and children of our school. We raised a fantastic £337!

Children In Need

For Children In Need, we decided that all of the children should come to school in their pyjamas for a 50p donation. Thanks to the generosity of all of our families, we raised £108.70.

The British Royal Legion Poppy Appeal

We sold poppies to all of the children in our school, with all proceeds going towards The British Royal Legion Poppy Appeal.

Chocolate Hamper Raffle

We organised a Chocolate Raffle at Easter to raise money for school funds. We asked Parents and Carers for donations of chocolate, that Mrs Formby put into hampers, and sold the tickets for 50p. With the money that we raised we decided to buy new equipment for play time. Thank you to everyone who donated chocolate, bought tickets, and to Mrs Formby for making our hampers.

Mayoral Visit

We organised a visit by the Mayor of Wakefield to Airedale Infant School. We welcomed the Mayor, he was then thoroughly entertained by the children's fantastic singing performance in assembly. Following this, the Mayor visited each class, where the children asked questions. The Mayor and his Mace Bearer Rob had lunch with the children and enjoyed the fantastic school dinners that we can offer. The children were polite, respectful and a credit to our school. It was a morning thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

Red Nose Day- Comic Relief Fund Raising

For Red Nose Day, we raised money by selling Red Noses and organising a 'wearing red' day for a 50p donation. We were over the moon that we raised an amazing £194.18 for Comic Relief. Thank you to all of the parents and children who supported this fantastic cause by buying Red Noses and wearing red.

Citizenship Ceremony

We joined the Airedale Junior School Council, and spent the morning at Wakefield Town Hall visiting the Mayor in his parlour and attending a citizenship ceremony. At the ceremony we watched 29 people become British citizens. This was a really special morning to be apart of.
