Personal Development

At Airedale Infant Academy, personal development is an integral part of our curriculum and school ethos, ensuring pupils develop the knowledge, skills and character needed to thrive in modern society.

The Core Curriculum - We use the SCARF Programme of Study to deliver a comprehensive Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) curriculum that supports pupils in leading healthy, safe and successful lives.

Through SCARF, pupils explore a range of key themes, including Health and Wellbeing, Relationships Education, Keeping Safe, Growing and Changing, Citizenship, British Values, SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development), and Protected Characteristics. Learning is further enhanced through SCARF workshops, which provide engaging opportunities for pupils to deepen their understanding of these important topics.

Religious Education is taught through the Wakefield SACRE Agreed Syllabus, enabling pupils to develop an understanding of a range of faiths, beliefs and worldviews. Through RE, pupils learn about diversity, respect and the important role that religion and belief play within communities and society.

The Enhanced Curriculum - Personal development is further enriched through assemblies, wider curriculum experiences and opportunities that promote reflection, celebrate diversity and deepen pupils' understanding of the world around them.

Beyond the Curriculum - Our curriculum is enhanced through a range of educational visits and visiting speakers who bring learning to life through real-world experiences. These opportunities broaden horizons, raise aspirations and help pupils develop the cultural capital needed for future success.

Together, these experiences ensure that every pupil benefits from a rich and inclusive personal development offer that builds confidence, character and resilience, while preparing them to become responsible, respectful and active citizen
